On Friday, Przyczyna showcased his speed in the 50m backstroke, winning the ‘B’ final with a blistering time of 24.58. He edged out seasoned competitors like 21-year-old Harry Robinson (24.67) and 18-year-old Toby Nakamura-Drew (24.76). His performance wasn't just a win; it was a record-breaker, shaving two-hundredths of a second off Dean Fearn's 2023 British Junior Record of 24.60. That's a tiny margin, showcasing the incredible precision and skill of these athletes!

But the excitement didn't stop there. The very next day, Przyczyna returned to the pool, this time in the 100m backstroke. He clocked an impressive 52.69 to win the ‘B’ final, leaving 18-year-old Rio Daodu (53.12) and Nakamura-Drew (53.52) in his wake. Again, he broke the record, surpassing Fearn's 2023 junior mark of 53.47. This young man is rewriting the record books!

A Month of Massive Improvement

What makes this even more remarkable? Before this meet, Przyczyna's personal bests were 25.60 and 54.39, achieved at the Swim England Winter Championships just a month prior. This means he improved by 1.02 seconds and 1.7 seconds in just over a month! The dedication and hard work are clearly paying off.

A Glimpse at the Bigger Picture

And this is the part most people miss...Had Przyczyna's 100m backstroke time been in the championship final, he would have placed eighth. His 50m time would have earned him ninth place. This highlights his potential to compete with the best, even at a young age.

Who is Patryk Przyczyna?

Przyczyna trains at the Eastbourne Swimming Club in Sussex, under the guidance of coach Dan Wright. While his international experience is still developing, his recent performances make him a swimmer to watch closely as the long course season approaches. His current best times in long course are 26.75 and 57.06. It won't be long before he becomes a prominent figure in the European Junior scene.

International Experience:

Przyczyna isn't entirely new to international competition. Last July, he participated in the European Youth Festival in Skopje, North Macedonia. There, he secured second place in the 100m backstroke (57.62) and finished 12th in the 100m freestyle (53.88). He also contributed to the mixed 400m medley relay, which took silver, with a 57.16 leadoff. He also contributed to the boys’ 400 medley relay taking bronze with a 57.23 first leg, and the boys’ 400 free relay taking bronze with a 52.73 split.
