A major roadway is currently shut down following a significant accident involving a heavy goods vehicle (HGV), leading to expected traffic congestion that could persist for several hours this morning.
According to National Highways, the A20 has been closed between the A256 junction leading to Dover and the B2011 at Capel-le-Ferne, with the closure anticipated to last for much of the morning. This situation arose after an HGV veered off the road due to a collision.
A spokesperson from Kent Police informed KentOnline, "Kent Police received a call at approximately 1:20 AM on Sunday reporting that a lorry had overturned on the side of the A20 near Dover. Officers arrived on the scene and have since closed the carriageway heading towards London while arrangements are made for the recovery of the vehicle."
National Highways emphasized that the closure is necessary to safeguard both the officers and the specialized recovery teams who are operating at the incident site, noting that the recovery process is expected to take a substantial portion of the morning.
For those traveling in the area, a diversion route has been established to help redirect traffic around the affected zone.
