Idaho Falls siblings Rangi and Mahealani Grimes are swimming stars, consistently excelling at state championships. This season, they showcased their talent once again at the 5A state swimming championships, securing top honors for the Tigers. The siblings' hard work paid off, as they led the boys and girls teams to runner-up positions and earned individual accolades, making them East Idaho Sports Swimmers of the Year for a second consecutive season. Coach Liz Grimes, however, emphasizes that their relationship is more about mutual encouragement than rivalry. She notes that their competitive spirit drives them to practice and work diligently, fostering a positive dynamic. Rangi, a sophomore, shattered 5A state records in the 50 freestyle (21.44) and the 100 free (47.14), and also contributed to the first-place 200 medley relay team. Mahealani, a senior, dominated the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, repeating her wins from the previous year. She also swam on the first-place 400 free relay and 200 medley relay teams. Both siblings set personal-best marks, solidifying their status as swimming powerhouses.
