Imagine finding a hidden treasure, a real diamond, right under your feet! That's exactly what happened to a Texas family, and it all started with a simple question to Siri.
Austin, a curious 7-year-old, asked his mom, Elizabeth, about finding crystals. With a quick search, Siri suggested the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas. The family embarked on a journey, arriving at the park on a chilly December day. After four hours of searching in the cold, they were ready to call it quits. But Adrian, the determined 9-year-old, insisted on giving it another go.
And boy, was it worth it! After two hours on the second day, James Ward, 41, stumbled upon a metallic-looking crystal while sifting through the dirt near the West Drain section. Little did they know, this crystal held a precious secret.
When they presented their find to the staff at the Diamond Discovery Center, they received the news: it was a 2.09-carat diamond! The dark-yellowish-brown gem, about the size of a corn kernel, had been formed deep within the Earth and brought to the surface by a volcanic pipe.
The family proudly named their discovery the Ward Diamond, and it joined the ranks of four other diamonds found in the park that December.
But here's where it gets fascinating: the Crater of Diamonds State Park is one of the few places in the world where anyone can search for real diamonds. It's a unique opportunity for adventurers and treasure hunters alike.
