Walmart has confirmed plans to open additional stores in two states as part of a broader initiative to add 150 new sites. The upcoming locations are scheduled to debut in January, bringing hundreds of new jobs to the areas and drawing in thousands of new shoppers.
The first new store is slated to open on January 14 in the Apollo Beach area of Florida. A second location in Eastvale, California, is expected to launch in mid-January. In a separate press note, Walmart indicated that additional openings are on the horizon in Ocala, Jacksonville, and The Villages, Florida, during the early part of 2026.
The California store will span about 170,000 square feet and will feature a 16-pump fuel station, a full-service deli, meat and bakery departments, a pharmacy, a vision center, and a fresh produce section. The Eastvale site is projected to create roughly 300 jobs for the local community and marks Walmart’s first store in the city.
This move aligns with Walmart’s stated plan to either build new or convert existing locations to reach more customers. Over the next five years, the company aims to open or retrofit 150 stores, after already launching 10 new locations across Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, and Texas this year. The broader remodeling program will also touch at least 650 stores in 47 states plus Puerto Rico, with about 117 redesigned locations already completed in November. The updated stores are designed to offer enhanced technology and a wider range of products.
CEO John Furner for Walmart U.S. emphasized that these efforts are intended to benefit the communities involved by delivering significant capital investment in labor, supplies, and tax revenue, while enabling Walmart to serve more customers. He noted that in the next five years, the company plans to continue expanding with new builds and conversions alongside ongoing remodels.
Earlier this year, Walmart unveiled its “store of the future” concept. The Houston location, opened in May, highlighted this vision with new innovations, and the company plans to renovate hundreds more locations to improve layouts, product diversity, services, and technology, ultimately creating a more convenient and engaging shopping experience for customers and stronger support for associates.
